Colette Todorov of Scarlett Thistle
COLETTE TODOROV OF SCARLETT THISTLE:
Colette has been belly dancing for over 14 years, starting with her first class with Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance (FCBD) in San Francisco in 1997.  She was immediately intrigued by the group improvisational aspect of the dance and was invited to join the professional troupe at the start of 2001.
During her tenure with FCBD, Colette participated in numerous shows and videos, including “San Francsico Beledi” and “Tribal Basics, Vol. 7″, and multiple performances in the renowned San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.  She was trained by Carolena to teach at the FCBD studio in 2002, teaching weekly classes of all levels, and had the opportunity to teach FCBD workshops nationally and internationally.

In 2008, Colette established Scarlet Thistle Studio in Hood River, OR as her home base for teaching.  The following year she founded Scarlet Thistle Belly Dance, a performance troupe that performs at festivals and shows throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 2011, Colette became the resident American Tribal Style (ATS) instructor at Datura, Rachel Brice’s studio in Portland. She brings nearly a decade of belly dance teaching experience to both studios and to workshops throughout the area.
Colette continues to study and train with Carolena and other renowned dancers and musicians.  In the spring of 2011 she was part of the first group to receive a “Certificate of Initiation” in Rachel Brice’s 8 Elements Format.  Colette has studied at the Sulhaila Salimpour School of Belly Dance, completing Level 1 and Level 2 curriculum and trained with Mira Betz in Mira’s weekly classes.  She has completed multiple Rhythm Diatribes with Helm and studied zils and rhythms with master musician Tobias Roberson.

Her goal is to continue to develop as a dancer and to inspire others to discover how dance and creativity can drastically improve their life.

Kajira Djoumahna of Black Sheep Belly Dance
KAJIRA DJOUMAHNA OF BLACK SHEEP BELLY DANCE:
Kajira has devoted the first several years of her nearly twenty years long career to the proliferation of American Tribal Style (ATS) BellyDance (BD) and since 2001 has focused on her own innovative Format which she calls Synchronized Group Improvisational (SGI) Tribal Style BellyDance. Though skilled in many other traditional dance forms, this specialty chose her due to its “no borders” sense of creativity, its modern approach to ancient ways, its inherent ability for developing one’s sense of community, the fact that this form builds self esteem not through competition, but through cooperation; and its capacity to bring dancers together nearly psychically through the use of structured group improvisational dancing.

Most of all, Kajira is the original Creator and “Chief Imagineer” of the Kajira Djoumahna/BlackSheep BellyDance (KD/BSBD) Format and is the Founder and Teacher of BSBD and its earlier incarnations, as well as hundreds of other individuals and troupes around the world. Kajira and BlackSheep BD feel technique is necessary only to facilitate the experience of the loftier goal of complete and total JOY while in the moment with others! We feel this format and the way it is taught is a vehicle for healing on so many levels. It is much more than a series of steps...

She is author of the famous Tribal Bible (currently sold out of its 6th printing), which has become known as “a rich and incredibly well-researched and documented resource for dancers of all styles”. Kajira’s most influential teachers in her dance life include Carolena Nericcio of FCBD, with whom she spent 8 years as a student and as a member of her various student performance troupes, Elizabeth Artemis Mourat, Delilah, Suhaila & Jamila Salimpour, TerriAnne, Deanne Adams, Tempest, Rachel Brice, Laurel Victoria Gray, Morocco and Sarala Dandekar.
Kajira is constantly grateful to have a full schedule year-round traveling to share her art with others, whenever possible accompanied by members of her troupe.

Mimi Fontana of Manhattan Tribal
MIMI FONTANA OF MANHATTAN TRIBAL

Mimi Fontana is a driving force in the rapid growth of New York City’s Tribal Belly Dance community.  After years in competitive ice skating and a decade as a professional touring and studio musician (bass guitar), Mimi Fontana turned her prodigious artistic attention toward ethnic dance – primarily American Tribal Style (ATS) belly dance.

In 2006, she founded Manhattan Tribal, New York City's first ATS dance company. Studying with Carolena Nericcio, creator of ATS and Director of Fat Chance Belly Dance (FCBD) in San Francisco, Mimi received multiple certifications in the FCBD format, and was granted Sister Studio status in 2008.

In addition to regularly teaching multiple ATS classes in NYC, and the workshops she is invited to conduct nationally and overseas, Mimi is an AFAA group fitness instructor specializing in Pilates, Boot Camp and Older Adult Movement.

While preserving ATS belly dance in its true form, Mimi and Manhattan Tribal add their own brand of NYC flavor, infusing their performances with high energy and exciting combinations that have become their signature style.   In 2011, World Dance New York released “Tribal Revival: American Tribal Style Bellydance Variations and Combinations with Mimi Fontana”. Molly McClellan of TribaltiqueMOLLY McCLELLAN OF TRIBALTIQUE
Molly began her belly dance training in South Florida, studying under Maja, Girl From the Nile in 1999. When she moved to New Orleans, she continued her training, and studied the American Tribal Style (ATS) format under Megha Gavin, the director of Devyani. Molly danced as a member of the "Daughters of Devi" until Megha left New Orleans in September of 2003. After Megha left, the remaining members of Devyani formed n.o.madic tribal Dance Company, where Molly danced with them until she moved to Denver in June 2004.

Molly co-formed TribalTique in the summer of 2004 with Julia DiVerdi in an effort to further explore and create a new vision of Tribal Style Belly Dance in Northern Colorado. TribalTique’s unique style combines classic American Tribal Style posture, vocabulary, and improvisational cue dancing with polished technique and cutting edge Tribal Fusion. TribalTique currently teaches and performs both Tribal Improvisational and Tribal Fusion styles.

In addition to continued study with teachers across the nation, Molly completed the General Skills Certification in ATS with Carolena Nericcio in 2007, and in 2008, she became a certified and registered yoga instructor.
Molly and TribalTique have served as featured instructors and performers at belly dance festivals across the nation, most notably teaching at Cues and Tattoos in 2010 and 2011, and at Tribal Fest in 2007, 2008, and 2010 (with sold out workshops at Tribal Fest in 2007 and 2008!).
In addition to Co-Directing TribalTique, Molly heads up TribalTique-Denver, which specializes in teaching and performing her own brand of Tribal Belly Dance, Modern Tribal Improvisational Belly Dance.

Samantha is also a tall ship sailor and gunner. She can often be found somewhere off the west coast of the United States or Canada, 70-90 feet in the air in the rigging, hauling like mad on a halyard, happily covered in pine tar or firing the black powder deck and swivel guns of the c.1750-replica brig Lady Washington. Samantha has moved to the Pacific Northwest in order to build or renovate a ship and begin a life of seasteading (also involving lots of dance, of course!).

Steven Eggers of Atash Maya STEVEN EGGERS:
Once upon a time, a boy named Steven was born in a little desert town in the middle of nowhere, called Ridgecrest. His connection with drama and the performing arts drew him reluctantly towards English country dancing in a Renaissance dance class. One day when he arrived early, he happened upon the magic of Tribal belly dance for the very first time. He knew right away that he was hooked. Studying doumbek rhythms to drum for Troupe Kandahar, he was eventually coaxed into dancing instead. In just three months of nurturing his natural ability, he was ready to perform with the troupe at Cairo Carnivale
2001. Powerful motivation drove him to every class, and festival performance possible, eventually leading him to branch off to form his own troupe – Isidis – and win the Ultimate Troupe Competition at Hips of Fury 2005.

His passion and confidence made him a perfect match for Atash Maya when he moved to San Diego in 2005. Here he has mastered brilliant fire performance, American Tribal Style, and fusing Tribal with dance forms as varied as Indian Classical, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Breakdance, Salsa, Modern, and Pop Locking. In 2007 he won 1st place in the Arabesque belly dancing competition. Steven is especially intuitive about connecting with students in classes and workshops, making sure they really grasp each lesson. His unconventional thinking shines through in his teaching, encouraging everyone to try a new perspective. Whether you study with him or see him perform, you will agree with those who have dubbed him otherworldly and “the most beautiful boy in bellydance”.
Since then, Steven  has traveled internationally teaching and performing in Europe. He is an acclaimed international super star. In 2009 two performance DVD’s featuring Steven and Atash Maya have been released  and in 2010 you can expect to see one or two instructional DVD’s.
